Verified videos emerging from Iran show bodies piled up in a hospital, snipers stationed on buildings, and CCTV cameras being destroyed, following the unprecedented crackdown on protests earlier this month.
The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports nearly 6,000 deaths since the protests began in December, with investigations into more than 17,000 unconfirmed fatalities amid an internet blackout.
Recent footage from January 8 and 9 highlights the violent crackdown, indicating it might be among the deadliest nights for protesters. Videos show a mortuary filled with at least 31 bodies at Tehranpars hospital and people fleeing gunfire during protests.
Protesters are also seen disabling surveillance cameras, showcasing defiance against extensive state monitoring. Reports indicate multiple armed security personnel have been firing indiscriminately, with footage capturing armed men in military uniforms causing further chaos.
Despite the oppressive environment created by authorities, limited connectivity through satellite services and VPNs has allowed some citizens to share vital insights from the ground, indicating that the fight for change in Iran is ongoing. Additional footage is expected as the situation evolves and the humanitarian crisis continues to develop.
