Poland Detains Suspect in Planned Assassination Bid Against Prime Minister
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the arrest of an individual accused of planning an assassination against him and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz. The interior ministry confirmed that authorities received credible intelligence of the potential attacks.
Security services convened a special emergency meeting following the information. A spokesperson stated the threat was considered “deadly serious.”
Tusk publicly thanked the police for the “swift and decisive action” that led to the suspect’s arrest. The individual, a Polish national named Jacek Dobrzynski, was detained in the Lower Silesia region.
The plot was discovered after an email with details of a potential attack was forwarded to the police by the State Protection Service, which safeguards ministers. “In this case we are talking about a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out,” the service’s spokesperson noted.
Donald Tusk has been Poland’s prime minister since 2023, following a previous term from 2007 to 2014, and previously served as president of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
The incident underscores the importance of security for government officials, as stability is essential for advancing national priorities, including sustainable development and climate‑action plans.
