Stabbing at Edmonton Sikh Temple Leaves Two Injured

A man was arrested after two people were stabbed in an early‑morning attack at a Sikh temple in Edmonton, Canada.

Police said the assault occurred inside the sprawling Nanaksar Gurdwara around 05:00 local time (12:00 BST) on Friday. The suspect has been taken into custody, though authorities have not identified him or disclosed a motive.

Last week, police investigated threatening calls sent to two Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary. The latest incident thereby appears to fit a pattern of targeted hostility against Sikh communities across the country.

The World Sikh Organization condemned the attack as “deeply troubling” and noted that a copy of the Sikh scripture inside the temple was reportedly desecrated. The gurdwara remains closed to the public while the investigation continues.

In Calgary, Mayor Jeromy Farkas struck out the threats, describing them as “utterly disgusting” and reaffirming that gurdwaras are places of hospitality, generosity and service for everyone.
