In the wake of an incident where Renee Good was shot and killed by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis, her wife, Rebecca Good, has released a heartfelt tribute describing the legacy of kindness left by her partner. The couple, who recently moved to the city, were engaged in supporting their neighbors when tragedy struck.
On the day of the shooting, an officer confronted Renee Good, demanding she open her vehicle door; as she attempted to drive away, an ICE agent fired shots at close range, resulting in her death. The tragic event has sparked widespread controversy, with officials from the Trump administration labeling Renee as a domestic terrorist, a claim that local activists have vehemently contested.
Rebecca Good chose to focus her statement on celebrating her wife’s life rather than the circumstances of her death. “Renee was a Christian who believed in compassion, stating 'we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole,'” she wrote. “Renee sparkled… she was made of sunshine.”
The couple, who raised Renee's six-year-old son from a previous marriage, embraced a shared vision of kindness and connection within their community. After relocating to Minneapolis, Rebecca reflected on the warmth they experienced, feeling as if the community was looking out for one another.
Rebecca's statement serves as a powerful reminder of the love they cultivated in their family. She emphasized the importance of continuing to teach their son that compassion is vital, asserting her commitment to raise him with the understanding that there are individuals working towards a better world. “The people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way,” Rebecca concluded.
