Five people have been killed in two separate explosions in Iran, attributed to gas leaks, according to local officials and state media.
In the southern city of Bandar Abbas, one explosion resulted in the death of one individual and left 14 others injured when it ripped through an eight-floor residential building, causing severe damage to the structure, vehicles, and nearby shops.
Meanwhile, a second explosion in Ahvaz, located in the southwest, tragically killed four individuals. Emergency officials highlighted the need for immediate medical attention for the injured, with reports of a child being rescued from the rubble.
This series of explosions comes at a tense time in the region, amid rising military presence from the United States and ongoing diplomatic pressures regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
The local fire department specified that preliminary investigations pointed to a gas leak as the cause of the explosions. Authorities are expected to release further details as investigations continue. The Iranian government has expressed that its nuclear program is peaceful and has denied allegations from the U.S. and allies regarding military aspirations.
The situation remains sensitive, with the potential for increased scrutiny on safety measures and infrastructure in urban areas, as well as the broader implications of regional tensions.
