At least three Palestinian women have been killed and eight more injured after missile debris hit a beauty salon in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says.

The PRCS said shrapnel hit the salon in the town of Beit Awwa, near Hebron, in the southern West Bank.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that fragments landed on a metal caravan used as a salon as well as several other locations in the West Bank.

This tragic event occurred shortly after the Israeli military announced that Iran had fired missiles towards it, indicating it was working to intercept them.

Wafa identified those killed as Mais Ghazi Masalmeh, 17, Sahira Rizq Masalmeh, 50, and Amal Sobhi Abdel Karim Matawa' Masalmeh, 36.

Emergency responders, including at least five ambulances, rushed to the scene to find several casualties and injuries. The bodies of the three women were taken to a local hospital, along with other victims who sustained critical and moderate injuries.

Initially, the PRCS reported that four women had been killed but later revised the death toll to three.

Additionally, PRCS teams faced considerable challenges reaching the site due to the closure of iron gates, which had a direct impact on the emergency response time available to assist the injured victims.

The BBC has reached out to the Israeli military for comments on the incident.
