UK sanctions over proposed West Bank settlement sparks diplomatic row

The UK announced sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the West Bank, with a specific focus on the controversial E1 site. The E1 location sits just outside the existing Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, overlooking the West Bank. Israel has issued tenders for roughly 1,200 homes at the proposed site, a move that has amplified international criticism.

In reaction to the sanctions, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar warned that the UK might close its consulate in Jerusalem and condemned the UK government as "hostile". This diplomatic spat reflects broader tensions over settlement policies and the future of the region.
