A tragic bus accident in South Africa's Limpopo province has claimed the lives of 42 individuals, including seven children, who were predominantly Malawian and Zimbabwean nationals. The bus was involved in the incident while navigating a mountainous section of the N1 highway on Sunday night.

The vehicle reportedly veered off the road along a steep mountain pass and plunged down an embankment. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences, emphasizing that this tragedy is a loss not only for South Africa but also for the neighboring countries of Zimbabwe and Malawi.

The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation into the matter. The bus was reportedly returning from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, but the specific number of passengers and the bus's capacity at the time of the accident is still unclear.

In addition to the 42 fatal casualties, 49 individuals sustained injuries as a result of the crash. Government officials, including Transport Minister Barbara Creecy, are planning to visit the crash site and meet with the injured passengers to assess the situation and discuss preventive measures for future accidents.
