Tourist train overturns in Cártama, injuring 17 people during tapas festival
Seventeen people were injured when a tourist train overturned in the small Spanish town of Cártama during the annual Route of the Tapa and the Cocktail event.
The accident occurred just after 21:30 local time on Saturday evening, according to local authorities. The cause is still unknown.
Emergency teams attended to the injured at the scene, and four patients—including three children—were later evacuated to a nearby hospital. None of the victims suffered serious injuries.
The free train ride was part of the Ruta de la Tapa y el Cóctel, a city tour that encourages visitors to sample local food and drink, offering stamped receipts for raffle entry.
At the time of the incident, the train was carrying around 30 passengers aboard a single carriage.
The train overturned while turning at a crossing on Santo Cristo Road, prompting several emergency calls to the local service.
Service has been suspended for the weekend as investigators examine the cause.
Cártama lies just 17 km (10.6 miles) from the popular tourist hub of Málaga and a 44‑minute drive to the affluent resort town of Marbella.
