Sydney Beach Shark Attack Leaves Woman Seriously Injured

A 35‑year‑old woman was bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach in Sydney, suffering serious arm and leg injuries. Emergency services responded in the early morning hours and the victim was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.

The incident prompted the temporary closure of several nearby beaches and prompted beach patrols to increase vigilance. Public caution was advised as the region was deemed at heightened risk following a series of shark attacks across Australian waters.

Australia has recorded almost 1,300 shark attacks since 1791, including more than 260 fatalities. While most encounters are not lethal, authorities maintain strict measures at popular surf and swim beaches to safeguard both people and marine life.
