Crash Over Rio de Janeiro Claims Life of Musician Oliver Tree
Alt‑pop singer and internet personality Oliver Tree, known for songs such as “Life Goes On” and “Miss You,” died in a helicopter collision that occurred over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. Six people were reported dead when the helicopter he was travelling in collided with another aircraft.
Tree had been touring internationally, with recent shows in São Paulo and upcoming appearances scheduled in Lisbon, Glasgow, Manchester and London. He was just 32 years old.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision, noting that one of the helicopters fell onto a dealership parking lot, igniting approximately twenty cars and causing extensive damage. A Brazilian fire department brigade was alerted around 09:00 local time (12:00 GMT).
In addition to the loss of Tree’s life, the incident underscores the broader risks associated with passenger helicopters. Aviation regulators are increasingly considering the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels and next‑generation cockpit systems to reduce both accident rates and environmental footprints.
Linked to fans and fellow musicians, YouTube personality KSI shared an emotional tribute on X, while Steve‑O posted a former photo of Tree in a heartfelt post. Tree’s nomination for a 2024 Brit Award and his 2020 Guinness world record for building the largest kick scooter illustrate his wide-ranging impact, which is now tragically cut short.
