Central Nepal’s Gorkha district was struck by a sudden flash flood that swept away dozens of houses, four bridges and a hydropower camp along the Budhi Gandaki River.
Army officials announced on Sunday that 49 people had been rescued from the affected areas, yet five remain missing as recovery crews continue to search. The disaster is believed to have been triggered by a landslide upstream, which unleashed the torrent downstream.
The flood has not only displaced residents but also damaged critical infrastructure. The four collapsed bridges have severed vital transport links, while the damaged hydropower camp threatens the region’s renewable energy supply.
This calamity follows two months of devastating floods and landslides that hit Nepal’s border towns with Tibet, destroying thousands of homes, killing and missing hundreds, and crippling energy grids. Local authorities are calling for immediate relief efforts and longer‑term investments in flood‑resilient infrastructure to mitigate future climate‑linked disasters.
