Late Sunday night, a catastrophic collision between Air Canada flight AC8646 and a fire truck on the runway at LaGuardia Airport led to the deaths of both pilots aboard the plane and left numerous passengers injured. Witness Leo Medina, situated in another aircraft nearby, described the scene: We were literally like 100 metres away. It was like the plane got cut in half. Passengers reported a loud boom as the plane hit the truck, with one indicating that there was a chaotic rush to exit the aircraft post-collision.

In total, 41 individuals were taken to hospitals for treatment, some with serious injuries, while many others were left stranded and waiting at the airport for hours. Among the deceased pilots was 30-year-old Antoine Forest from Quebec, with the other pilot not yet publicly identified.

US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy visited the crash site and emphasized the necessity of seat belt use across all forms of transportation, highlighting their life-saving potential in emergencies.
