Four children have been brutally stabbed and killed at a school in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, according to police reports.
A 34-year-old suspect has been detained, but the motive behind the killings is still under investigation, the Uganda police force stated.
The incident occurred at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School located in the Makindye Division of the capital.
Crime scene investigators are currently on-site, and a police spokesperson noted that additional details would be provided later. Uganda's police chief, Abas Byakagaba, along with other senior officers, have also been briefed about the events taking place at the school.
According to Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper, local residents reported that the suspect had posed as a parent to infiltrate the school, and after speaking with the administrator, he attacked the children, who were aged between two and three years old.
Videos circulating on social media depict crowds of angry and distressed individuals gathering outside the school following the incident.
The suspect was quickly apprehended to prevent him from being lynched, a local journalist, Erich Mboowa, reported on social media.
