Three people were killed and several others injured after a shooting erupted during Seattle’s Bite of Seattle food festival, according to the city fire department.
Mayor Katie Wilson confirmed that one suspect was taken into custody, while a second suspect fled the scene and has not yet been arrested. Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis said police believe the shooters were firing at each other.
Two fatalities were recorded at the festival site, with a third dying later in hospital. Among the injured were a two‑year‑old boy and several adults, all of whom are recovering.
Video footage circulating online shows people scrambling for safety inside the Space Needle’s lobby, crouching behind pillars and merchandise shelves as gunfire rang out.
City officials and local leaders condemned the incident as “senseless violence” and called for stronger safety measures at public gatherings. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson expressed prayers for victims and urged continued vigilance.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal emphasized the community’s grief and pledged cooperation with city and state authorities. She urged residents to remain united in support of the affected families while authorities work to restore public confidence.
