NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In a troubling incident that unfolded in broad daylight, Dalton Eatherly, widely known for his controversial online persona 'Chud the Builder', has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting outside the Montgomery County Courthouse. It was reported that during a verbal dispute around 1:19 p.m. on Wednesday, Eatherly drew a firearm from his jacket pocket and opened fire, striking another individual multiple times.
After the shooting, the injured man was quickly transported via helicopter to a Nashville hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. According to law enforcement, he is now in stable condition.
The affidavit filed in court points out there were several innocent bystanders present during the incident, with surveillance footage showing a ricochet from Eatherly's gun. Witness reports indicate that he also accidentally shot himself in the arm during the altercation.
At his arraignment on Friday, prosecutors recommended that Eatherly be denied bond due to the severity of his offenses and the potential danger posed to public safety. However, Judge H. Reid Poland III set the bond at $1.25 million, citing the seriousness of the charges and the number of people present during the incident.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Eatherly faces several other serious allegations, including employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. His previous legal history includes a harassment charge and accusations of theft and disorderly conduct.
An attorney representing Eatherly has denounced the racially charged telephone calls and emails received by his office, asserting that the defense counsel's role is to represent all clients without prejudice.
As Eatherly awaits a full bond hearing scheduled for May 21 and a preliminary hearing set for May 26, his social media presence has been scrutinized for inciting confrontations with individuals, particularly targeting racial minorities.
