CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Dalton Eatherly, 28, widely recognized for livestreaming provocative and racially derogatory remarks to Black individuals in public, was arrested on charges of attempted murder following a shooting incident on Wednesday outside a courthouse in Clarksville. The Montgomery County District Attorney, Robert J. Nash, confirmed the charges but withheld details about what led to the confrontation that resulted in gunfire.

Eatherly was involved in a dispute with another man, whose identity remains undisclosed, but witnesses described him as Black. Both men sustained injuries and were treated at local hospitals, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

According to court documents, Eatherly is in custody at the Montgomery County jail pending an arraignment hearing. He faces additional charges that include employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.

Claire Martin, who works nearby, characterized Eatherly as someone who often instigates confrontations for social media content, stating, 'He’s well known in Clarksville for antagonizing people to see what he can get them to do.' Eatherly’s actions have attracted criticism and concern regarding public safety and the impact of online provocation.

In a video recorded after the shooting, Eatherly suggested he shot the man in self-defense after being assaulted. This incident was preceded by a court appearance Eatherly had related to a significant debt, highlighting a pattern of troubling behavior that prompted community concern.

Eatherly has also faced additional charges related to misconduct at a Nashville steakhouse, where he reportedly refused to pay his bill while making racially charged statements. As he awaits trial, the community remains on high alert about the potential dangers posed by his brand of public provocations.
