The organisers of the Barbie Dream Fest weekend in Florida are issuing refunds to attendees after customers complained of a lacklustre event. The creators of the event promised 'unforgettable experiences', and advertised a roller rink and disco to be enjoyed over three days. However, ticketholders, who paid up to $450 (£340), expressed disappointment as the event fell short of expectations, describing the venue as a grey convention center with minimal decoration.

Mattel, the company behind the Barbie brand, announced that full refunds would be given to all ticket purchasers following the negative feedback.

Attendees voiced their feelings, with one father saying he felt cheated upon entering the event space, expecting something more vibrant and engaging. Social media was inundated with complaints too, with users expressing their dissatisfaction, calling the life-size Barbie dream house a mere backdrop and criticizing the lack of activities for older attendees.

Mattel, which licensed the Barbie branding to Mischief Management for the event, stated they would work closely with the management to ensure attendee feedback is handled properly. They reiterated a commitment to providing a quality experience for all fans.

Despite high expectations fueled by promotional material, attendees have drawn comparisons to other underwhelming themed experiences, such as the infamous Willy Wonka event, suggesting a growing need for accountability in promotional claims across similar events.
