Oslo’s mayor Anne Lindboe, engaged to Pål Sandvid, postponed the wedding that was planned for Friday after the day’s news that King Harald V had died.
Lindboe paid tribute on Instagram, speaking of the national sense of loss and recalling the king’s role as a unifying figure.
King Harald had reigned for 35 years, modernising the monarchy, marrying a commoner and guiding Norway through difficult times.
The monarch died early in the day from a rare blood condition at Oslo’s national hospital; his son Haakon VIII became king the next day.
No new wedding date has been set yet, as the city reflects the collective mourning that follows a national leader’s death.
