At least 30 people were injured following a Russian drone strike on a railway station in north-east Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
In a post on X, he indicated that train staff and passengers were present at the time of the strike in Shostka, located in the Sumy region.
Emergency services responded quickly and started to help the injured, though information regarding their conditions was still being confirmed.
President Zelensky shared a video that showed a damaged train carriage on fire.
The Russians could not have been unaware that they were targeting civilians. This is terrorism which the world has no right to ignore, wrote Zelensky on X.
The strike, characterized as a "vile" attack aimed to disrupt communications with frontline communities, resulted in injuries among three children aged 8, 11, and 14. Ukrainian Railways officials reported that the attack had no military purpose and was designed solely to create panic.
With ongoing Russian air assaults in recent weeks increasing, the Ukrainian government has been advocating for advanced air defense systems from Western allies to protect against such strikes. Zelensky has called for urgent action from global powers to counter these assaults.
