An Israeli air strike on a town in southern Lebanon has killed six people, including three paramedics, according to Lebanon's health ministry. It comes as the US said the two countries had agreed to a 45-day ceasefire.
The health ministry reported a fourth paramedic had sustained critical injuries after a civil defence centre was attacked in the town of Harouf. The BBC has contacted the Israeli military for comment.
On Friday, the US state department announced Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend their shaky ceasefire after two days of negotiations in Washington DC.
US President Donald Trump announced the truce on 16 April, but Israel and Hezbollah have continued to exchange fire since then.
On Wednesday, Lebanon's health ministry stated that Israeli air strikes had caused 22 fatalities, including eight children, across the south.
We hope these discussions will advance lasting peace between the two countries, full recognition of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and establishing genuine security along their shared border, said state department spokesman Tommy Pigott.
The state department confirmed plans to reconvene the political track of negotiations in June.
Additionally, a security track will be initiated at the Pentagon on May 29 with military delegations from both countries, Pigott added.
Israel's Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, expressed that the talks were frank and constructive.
Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam indicated his aim to rally Arab and international support to strengthen their position in negotiations with Israel.
Daily reports show Hezbollah and Israel exchanging fire along the southern border of Lebanon since the ceasefire began.
Israel has ramped up its air and artillery strikes recently, especially in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure.
Lebanon's health ministry accused Israel of targeting civilians and paramedics, a claim that Israel denies.
The Israeli military asserts it aims to establish a buffer zone in southern Lebanon to prevent further Hezbollah attacks.
In certain areas, entire villages have been devastated by tactics similar to those employed by the Israeli military in Gaza. Human rights groups have stated that some actions could constitute war crimes, a claim Israel contests.
Hezbollah has also conducted attacks on Israeli troops using rockets and drones.
Southern Lebanon remains the core of the country's Shia community, greatly supporting Hezbollah and enduring relentless Israeli bombardment.
More than one million individuals, equating to one in five of the population, have been displaced across Lebanon, primarily from the south, the eastern Bekaa Valley, and the southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahieh.
The conflict ignited on 2 March, following a joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran.
Hezbollah initiated the confrontation by firing rockets into Israel, to which Israel responded with extensive air strikes and a ground invasion of southern Lebanon.
Since the onset of the conflict, at least 2,896 individuals have been killed in Lebanon, with Israeli authorities reporting 18 soldiers and four civilians have died during the same timeframe.
