Ahmed al Ahmed, 44, appeared before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday facing charges of assault, stalking and intimidation related to a March incident. He has pleaded not guilty to the assault of his father.
During the December 14 Bondi Beach shooting, Ahmed tackled a gunman, wrestled a firearm from him and was shot in the arm by a second attacker. The assault was the deadliest mass shooting in Australia since 1996 and police classified it as a terrorist attack against the Jewish community.
Video footage of Ahmed’s intervention attracted international attention and spurred a fundraiser that raised over A$2.5 million ($1.7 million) for him.
After being charged earlier this month, Ahmed maintained that the assault claims were false. Two of his brothers have also been charged for threatening him and attempting to extort money from the donations he received.
Ahmed left the court on Wednesday refusing to comment on family disputes or the allegations. The case is scheduled to return to court in August, with a December hearing to follow.
