Urgent Safety Alert: Mixing Up Vodka and Energy Drinks
Authorities caution consumers after Celsius energy drinks cans were mistakenly filled with vodka due to a packaging error.
In a surprising turn of events, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has warned consumers to carefully check their Celsius energy drink cans after a packaging mishap led to some being accidentally filled with vodka. This alarming situation specifically targets the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of the popular energy drink.
The issue arose when a packaging supplier erroneously sent empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a vodka seltzer producer, which subsequently filled them with alcoholic content. Responding swiftly, High Noon has initiated a recall of its Beach Variety packs that were produced on the same line, although no illnesses or adverse effects have been reported thus far according to the USFDA.
Affected products encompassed two production lots, with the USFDA providing detailed information on its website for consumer reference. These products reached retailers in a number of states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23. The problematic High Noon packs are identifiable by the retail code UPC 085000040065 and the following lot codes: L CCC 17JL25 (from 14:00 to 23:59) and L CCC 18JL25 (from 00:00 to 03:00).
For Celsius drinks, consumers can find the relevant information on cans featuring the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1, along with specific lot codes: L CCB 02JL25 (from 2:55 to 3:11). The lot numbers can be found lasered at the bottom of the cans.
The USFDA has strongly advised consumers to dispose of any Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink cans that match the impacted lot codes and advises against consuming the liquid, heightening consumer awareness during this unexpected recall. It's important to note that High Noon Beach Variety packs with different lot codes remain safe for consumption and are not affected by this incident.
