Stanley Recalls 2.6 Million Travel Mugs Due to Serious Burn Hazard

Stanley has issued a recall for approximately 2.6 million travel mugs due to safety hazards linked to loose lids, causing injuries. Consumers are urged to stop using the mugs and request free replacement lids.

In a significant safety announcement, Stanley is recalling around 2.6 million of its travel mugs due to serious burn hazards. This decision comes after reports indicated that loose lids could detach during use, leading to potential burn injuries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) disclosed that the recall affects all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold across the United States from June 2016 until this month.

The recall was prompted by concerns regarding the polypropylene lid’s threading, which can shrink under heat and torque, increasing the risk of detachment. With prices ranging from $20 to $50, these mugs were sold at retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Target, and come in sizes from 12 ounces to 20 ounces in various colors like black, white, and green.

Stanley has reported 91 instances globally of the lids coming off during use, resulting in a concerning 38 burn injuries, with 16 incidents traced back to the U.S. Stanley, a Seattle-based company with over a century of history, has emphasized its commitment to quality and constant improvement. Consumers who purchased affected mugs are urged to discontinue use immediately and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid.
