Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, an American-Kuwaiti journalist, has been acquitted after his detention due to social media posts regarding the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran. The journalist, who was reportedly charged with spreading false information, harming national security, and misusing his mobile phone, has faced 52 days in custody since his arrest on March 3. His social media activity included sharing a video and images related to a US F-15 fighter jet downed by Kuwaiti air defenses.

Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, a barrister from his legal team, confirmed the verdict of innocence on all charges, stating Shihab-Eldin is expected to be released imminently. The case drew attention from international press freedom organizations, including the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), which expressed relief over the outcome but emphasized the continual threat to journalists in the region, particularly following Kuwait's recent initiatives to prosecute those who disseminate information that undermines military operations.

The Kuwaiti authorities have not made any comments regarding the case. Earlier this month, the interior ministry urged the public not to share unverified information, warning of strict repercussions for those violating these directives. Shihab-Eldin's situation has underscored concerns about media freedom and the safety of journalists in conflict zones.
