Welcome to Cake Picnic, Sydney edition.
It's the viral event that's already sold out dates in San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles. The concept originated two years ago when founder Elisa Sunga invited friends to gather and bring cakes, sparking an unexpected culinary phenomenon. From Melbourne's earlier event with 1,600 cakes, the excitement has carried over to Sydney.
People go on tour for music and whatnot, but for cake, Sunga muses. With a setup ensuring cakes must be at least 20cm wide and 7.5cm high, the event is structured yet whimsical. For many, this gathering serves as an antidote to the chaos in today's world.
As attendees lined the lush lawns of Sydney's Botanic Gardens, smiles were shared over stunning cake displays: towering creations, colorful designs, and unique flavors reflected the talents and creativity of both amateur bakers and seasoned professionals.
Emphasizing community and connection, the event hosted individuals across different ages and backgrounds, showcasing a testament to the power of a simple shared experience—cake. Together, they carved, shared, and relished each slice of joy, cementing the picnic as a vibrant celebration of culinary art.
While Sunga excitedly bakes in her free time, she expresses a heartwarming sentiment: the event is not just about the cakes. It’s about bringing people together, fostering connections, and creating heartfelt memories. As the sun set over the Botanic Gardens, laughter, camaraderie, and, of course, plenty of cake flourished.
