Over 300 Nigerians Rescued in Record‑Breaking Security Sweep
Nigeria’s president confirmed that joint security forces reclaimed 308 civilians that had been kidnapped in separate attacks across the Niger and Kwara states. The operation, conducted on August 6, is cited as the largest single‑day rescue undertaken by the country’s military, police and intelligence units.
The liberated victims were freed from the Kainji Lake National Park in Niger State, as well as from the Woro village in Kwara State, where 163 residents survived a brutal assault that killed dozens. An additional 145 individuals were rescued from a Niger State hold‑up. Identity of the perpetrators—believed to be jihadists—has yet to be confirmed, and no suspects have been detained.
Medical teams at a military site provided urgent care to the survivors before they were reunited with their families. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the operation as a testament to enhanced coordination among Nigeria’s security agencies.
This rescue follows a broader pattern of abductions in central and southern Nigeria, raising concerns that insecurity is expanding beyond traditional conflict zones. Authorities are urging continued vigilance and community support to mitigate such risks.
