Manhunt After Parcel Bomb Injures Ukrainian Oligarch in Monaco
A parcel bomb exploded on Monday evening at an apartment complex on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, injuring Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner and their thirteen‑year‑old son. The incident has been classified by Monaco’s prosecutor as an attempted murder rather than a terrorist attack.
Police from Monaco and France are conducting a joint manhunt, with the suspect reportedly escaping toward the commune of Beausoleil at the border. Surveillance footage captured a man dropping a backpack in the lobby immediately before the blast.
Emergency services, including a helicopter overhead, arrived within minutes of the explosion, treating four additional casualties – one from shock and three from cuts sustained by broken shop windows. Over 100 police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Monaco’s government and Prince Albert II condemned the event as a "heinous crime" and a shock to the community. Yermolaiev, 58, a wealthy real‑estate developer from Dnipro who has renounced Ukrainian citizenship and pursued business interests in Crimea and the wine sector, was among those badly injured.
