Police have detained a person in connection to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US news anchor Savannah Guthrie.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, this individual was taken into custody during a traffic stop, and investigators are currently searching their residence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed that they are conducting a court-authorized search in Rio Rico, located south of Tucson, Arizona.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, more than a week ago, prompting a widespread search and urgent pleas from her family.
Authorities have yet to disclose any details regarding the detained individual. However, a woman, identified as the mother-in-law of the suspect, claims he is uninvolved in the case, stating, They're just invading my property.\
This news of the detention coincided with the FBI releasing videos and images capturing a masked individual at Nancy Guthrie's doorstep on the night she disappeared, raising significant concerns given the armed nature of the encounter.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated that law enforcement had recently recovered new surveillance footage revealing the individual tampering with the doorbell camera at Guthrie's home.
Furthermore, Savannah Guthrie has made several appeals on social media for information regarding her mother’s whereabouts, highlighting her mother's fragile health condition and urgent need for medication, which she has been without since her disappearance.
Savannah expressed, She was taken, and we don't know where. And we need your help, in her latest Instagram video as the family remains in distress over the ongoing investigation.
The FBI is currently offering a reward of $50,000 for any information leading to Nancy Guthrie's safe return.
