Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin in Dublin on Tuesday. This significant event marks the first official visit to Ireland by a Ukrainian president and his first lady.
During his visit, President Zelensky will also have a courtesy call with the newly-inaugurated Irish President Catherine Connolly. Additionally, he is scheduled to attend the Ireland-Ukraine Economic Forum's inauguration, joined by Tánaiste (Irish deputy prime minister) Simon Harris and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Helen McEntee.

'Visit at a critical time'
More than 120,000 Ukrainian refugees have sought asylum in Ireland since the war's outbreak in February 2022, with around 80,000 still residing there. The Irish government views Zelensky's visit as a chance to strengthen the very close and warm relations between Ukraine and Ireland.
Taoiseach Martin emphasized the inspiration the Ukrainian people have provided during their defense of their sovereignty, noting the challenges they continue to face from Russian attacks. He indicated that this visit is crucial for discussing how Ireland can enhance its support for Ukraine in these challenging times.
Both leaders have a history of meetings, including an encounter at Shannon Airport last February when President Zelensky briefly stopped en route to the U.S. to meet with former President Donald Trump.
'A critical time for Ukraine and Europe'
As Zelensky prepares for discussions on peace efforts and Ukraine's position in ongoing negotiations, the visit reflects the commitment of both nations to address the pressing issues arising from the Ukrainian conflict. Martin expressed his anticipation for discussing how to bolster Ukraine's standing in the pursuit of a just and enduring peace.
