In brief

Two missile strikes on Riyadh's main airport left 14 people dead and more than 300 wounded. CCTV footage captured passengers and staff taking cover as a missile detonated in the terminal’s interior. The Houthi movement in Yemen denied any foreign support claim, warning airlines to avoid Saudi airspace. In addition to the airport, the Houthis have targeted Saudi oil facilities and the nearby Dammam airport. This escalation highlights the growing security risks to air transport and its indirect impact on global emissions and connectivity.

Two missile attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday claimed 14 lives and injured more than 300 people, according to BBC reports.

CCTV footage captured the moment a missile struck the terminal, prompting passengers and staff to seek cover.

The Houthis, the Yemen-based group behind the assault, warned airlines and travellers that Saudi airspace could no longer be considered safe.

In addition to the Riyadh airport, the Houthis reportedly targeted oil facilities and Dammam airport in eastern Saudi Arabia, as stated by their military spokesman Brig Gen Yahya Saree.

The group pledged to continue its deep‑inside‑Saudi operations, declaring that all airports except those in Mecca and Medina could become potential targets.

The attacks reinforce the increasingly volatile security environment in the Middle East and underscore the importance of maintaining safe air corridors to support global economic stability as well as climate‑related travel.
