Georgia Judge Blocks Controversial Hand Count Mandate in U.S. Presidential Election

A Georgia judge has prevented a last-minute shift to hand counting ballots, citing administrative chaos concerns, as early voting sets records.

Judge Robert McBurney has struck down a recent Georgia election board decision mandating hand counts of ballots in upcoming U.S. elections, citing concerns over administrative disorder and insufficient training for poll workers. The decision comes amid record-breaking early voting in Georgia, a crucial swing state, with more than 328,000 casting their votes compared to 136,000 in 2020. The ruling, celebrated by Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, pointed out that the hand count would undermine public confidence by adding uncertainty. This pivotal decision complements McBurney's earlier ruling demanding certification of election results, further reflecting the tense political landscape as Trump and Harris vie for the presidency.
