British rapper Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will once again appear before a Perth court for a retrial on three rape charges set against him after a jury cleared him of several other sexual‑assault allegations.
The charges date back to an alleged assault that allegedly occurred after the artist performed at a nightclub in Perth in 2024. Barrientos has claimed that he and the woman, aged 20 at the time, had consensual sex in his hotel room, but the complainant later alleged that the rapper turned violent and ignored her pleas to stop.
During the original trial, a jury found Barrientos not guilty on three counts of rape, and also acquitted him of one assault charge and a strangulation charge. However, the court found him guilty of two remaining assault charges, for which sentencing will wait until after the retrial.
Barrientos is scheduled to appear in court again on 27 August to apply to vary his bail, but a definitive retrial date has not yet been set. The prosecution has confirmed the complainant is prepared to give further evidence if required.
During the trial, the rapper described his initial interaction at the event as feeling “fancied” by the fan and noted that the “vibes were good” when they later moved to the hotel. He defended himself by arguing that the evidence presented was full of inconsistencies, embellishments, and outright lies.
Barrientos, originally from Colombia and raised in the United Kingdom, has built a career via his involvement with the YouTube collective Beta Squad and has made media appearances on BBC Three and the celebrity version of Bake Off.
