This meeting comes shortly after Anthropic released its Claude Mythos preview, a cutting-edge AI tool claiming superiority over humans in specific hacking and cybersecurity tasks. During the meeting, Amodei discussed collaboration opportunities with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, according to reports from Axios.
Despite the recent positive engagement, Anthropic faced criticism from the White House two months ago, being branded a radical left, woke company. Nevertheless, Anthropic's technology is increasingly seen as critical, with only a select few companies having access to Mythos so far, described by researchers as adept in automated computer security tasks and exploiting vulnerabilities in legacy code.
Legal issues arose after the firm was labeled a supply chain risk, a classification that essentially blocks its technology's use by the government. The designation was viewed by Anthropic as retaliatory due to its refusal to allow Pentagon unrestricted access to its technologies, which the company fears could lead to misuse in surveillance or autonomous weaponry.
