An Indian pilot has tragically died after an Indian fighter jet crashed while performing a display at an airshow in Dubai, according to official reports.

The Indian Air Force expressed their sorrow in a statement, saying: IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief. Additionally, they confirmed that a court of inquiry would be established to ascertain the cause of the tragic accident.

The crash involved the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd's Tejas jet, occurring around 14:10 local time (10:10 GMT), as reported by the Associated Press.

In response to the incident, Dubai's Media Office along with the UAE Ministry of Defence stated that firefighters and emergency services had responded swiftly and were managing the situation on-site. Video footage from the aftermath of the crash revealed black smoke billowing into the sky.

The Chief of Defence Staff of India, Gen Anial Chauhan, expressed the deep regret felt by all ranks of the Indian Army and assured support to the bereaved family of the pilot.

It is noteworthy that the Dubai Airshow 2025, taking place at Al Maktoum International Airport, had drawn over 148,000 attendees and exhibitors from 1,500 companies. Unfortunately, this tragic event overshadowed the final day of the highly anticipated airshow.
