At approximately 09:13 local time a Eurocopter EC130 B4 plunged into Mount Ololokwe, killing all six people on board. The aircraft had left a wildlife conservancy in Losaiba for a scenic flight toward the Ewaso Nyiro river.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority says the crash was investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department and that drones are being used as the site is not yet accessible to rescue teams.
The helicopter was carrying a group of tourists, whose identities remain unconfirmed, according to local media and the Airbus investigation team.
Kenya has a history of helicopter accidents. In 2024 the military chief died when a service helicopter crashed, and in February of 2022 a similar accident in the Rift Valley claimed the lives of six passengers including a member of parliament.
The incident raises questions about the preparedness of wildlife‑tourism operators and the safety of scenic flights over remote natural parks, especially as eco‑tourism is a growing sector for Kenya’s economy and conservation outreach.
