BTS Star V Shares Hearing Loss Battle During World Tour
During a livestream after a recent concert in Baltimore, BTS member V (real name Kim Tae‑hyung) admitted that he has been dealing with hearing loss in one ear for roughly two and a half years. The singer said the condition worsened while he was serving in the mandatory military service in South Korea.
V first noticed problems with his left ear and soon found his hearing balance shifted, with one ear at a 100‑point level and the other only around 30. He later explained that he initially dismissed the issue, thinking it a matter of mental resilience — a common misconception in high‑energy performance settings.
He is now on medication and makes regular hospital appointments, underscoring the importance of early treatment for noise‑related ailments. V’s announcement came amid the band’s highly‑anticipated Arirang world tour, marking the reunion of all seven members after a hiatus for mandatory service. The tour will continue in cities like Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Sydney and Hong Kong.
Alongside V’s disclosure, another BTS member, Jungkook, commented on a shin injury he is managing, emphasising the physical demands of touring. Both riders highlight how the music industry is beginning to address the health implications of loud concert venues.
