The trial of Axel Rudakubana, an 18-year-old accused in a fatal stabbing incident, commenced on January 20, 2025, at the Crown Court in London. Rudakubana is facing grave allegations related to an attack that took place last July at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and bracelet-making class in Southport, England, resulting in the tragic deaths of three young girls and injuries to ten others.
The charges against Rudakubana include three counts of murder pertaining to the deaths of 6-year-old Bebe King, 7-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and 9-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar, all of whom were part of the summer school programs. He also faces ten counts of attempted murder for targeting eight other children and two adults during the horrific event on July 29.
Following the attack, police discovered ricin, a highly toxic substance, and a document titled “Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al Qaeda Training Manual” at Rudakubana’s residence. As a result, he has been charged with producing a biological toxin and possessing information deemed useful for committing a terrorist act. However, local authorities have not currently classified the stabbing as a terrorist act.
Merseyside Police's Chief Constable Serena Kennedy stated that without establishing a specific motivation, it would be premature to label the incident as terrorism, urging the public to avoid speculation on the case's intent. Rudakubana has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and has remained silent throughout the legal proceedings thus far.
