Tulsi Gabbard Revokes Security Clearances of 37 US Intelligence Officials

The Director of National Intelligence issues order prompted by President Trump's allegations of politicization among intelligence community members.

In a controversial move, Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, has revoked the security clearances of 37 US intelligence officials, alleging they have politicized intelligence for personal gain, aligning with President Trump's stance against the intelligence community's credibility.

In a dramatic escalation in the ongoing tussle between the Trump administration and US intelligence agencies, Tulsi Gabbard, the new Director of National Intelligence, has revoked the security clearances of 37 current and former intelligence officials. This unprecedented decision comes amidst allegations that these officials politicized intelligence for partisan purposes, a claim strongly endorsed by President Donald Trump.

Gabbard's memo, which she shared on social media, instructs various heads of national security agencies to act swiftly in stripping these officials of their clearances. Notably, many of those targeted served under previous administrations, including those of Democratic presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

The security clearances in question allow access to sensitive government information, a necessity for many roles in both the public and private sectors, particularly in defense and aerospace. However, it is still unclear if all individuals on the list currently hold active clearances.

In her memo, Gabbard articulated accusations of abuse of public trust, stating that the officials had “manipulated intelligence” and “leaked classified information” without authorization. She voiced the belief that security clearances are privileges granted to those who uphold their oath to the Constitution, emphasizing that betrayal of this trust warrants revocation. The memo did not specify any charges against the individuals.

This decision marks yet another instance of the Trump administration questioning the credibility of intelligence officials, having previously revoked the security clearances of notable figures including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, amidst controversies surrounding investigations into the January 6 Capitol riot.

Gabbard, who has been vocal against previous intelligence assessments, particularly regarding Russian interference in the 2016 elections, claims that such evaluations were part of a “treasonous conspiracy” against Trump. Critics, particularly from the Democratic side, have characterized these moves as political distractions, arguing that the administration is diverting attention from contentious policies and Trump's alleged connections to convicted felons, including Jeffrey Epstein.

As the political climate grows increasingly polarized, the implications of Gabbard's actions resonate, signalling a deepening conflict between Trump’s administration and the intelligence community.
