In brief

Gulf Cryo’s Abu Dhabi carbon‑capture plant, announced at ADIPEC 2026, is slated to begin production within weeks, adding to the company’s existing facility in Ras Al Khaimah. The facility will supply captured CO₂ to key local sectors, underlining Gulf Cryo’s broader decarbonisation strategy and support for the UAE’s sustainability goals. The launch highlights Gulf Cryo’s longstanding market presence and its commitment to local manufacturing and supply resilience.

Gulf Cryo’s new carbon‑capture facility in Abu Dhabi is set to begin production within weeks, adding to the company’s existing plant in Ras Al Khaimah. The launch was announced at ADIPEC 2026 by Chief Commercial Officer Georgios Beretsos, affirming the UAE remains the company’s largest market.

Beretsos told the Emirates News Agency that Gulf Cryo, a specialist in industrial gases and decarbonisation solutions, has supplied industrial and medical gases to a wide range of sectors across the UAE for several decades. He noted that the company was among the first to help develop the country’s industrial gases sector through substantial investment.

DIPEC 2026, held in Abu Dhabi, served as the platform for the announcement. Beretsos said this was Gulf Cryo’s fifth participation in the international gathering, describing it as the largest forum for showcasing innovations in energy, gas, chemicals and the energy transition. The company has maintained a presence in the decarbonisation zone since its introduction, using the event to build strategic partnerships with national and international oil and gas companies.

The newly commissioned carbon‑capture plant will capture and purify emissions for supply to key local sectors. Gulf Cryo plans to feed the captured CO₂ to desalination plants and the food industry, among others, helping industrial facilities reduce their emissions.

In addition to its carbon‑capture initiatives, Gulf Cryo continues to invest in the production of oxygen, nitrogen and argon—gases that are essential to a wide range of industries, from healthcare to metals and shipbuilding.

According to Beretsos, the company’s 70‑year history in the gases sector has enabled it to become one of the region’s largest producers and suppliers, serving petrochemicals, healthcare, metals, manufacturing, shipbuilding and oil and gas sectors across ten countries.

Recent developments and the repercussions of the Covid‑19 pandemic have underscored the importance of local manufacturing, proximity to customers and the introduction of new ideas, Beretsos added. These factors, he said, reinforce the need for supply resilience.

Gulf Cryo’s decarbonisation strategy emphasises local manufacturing and circular economy initiatives. The company aims to utilize captured CO₂ in commercial processes, thereby turning emissions into a resource for local industries.

By expanding its carbon‑capture portfolio in the UAE, Gulf Cryo is aligning its operations with the country’s sustainability agenda, which includes a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the share of clean energy.

The company’s continued investment in industrial gas production and decarbonisation solutions signals a broader commitment to climate‑positive solutions. Gulf Cryo’s work in Abu Dhabi represents another milestone in the UAE’s transition to a low‑carbon economy and demonstrates the role that industry can play in achieving national sustainability objectives.
