In Abu Dhabi, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan hosted German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche to discuss expanding cooperation in conventional and renewable energy. The meeting was part of the ongoing Strategic Partnership between the two countries and was attended by the UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other senior officials.

The discussion focused on opportunities to strengthen economic ties, investment flows, and energy collaboration. German leaders conveyed the greetings of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz, wishing the UAE continued progress and prosperity. The exchange underscored a shared commitment to sustainable development and energy transition.

Emphasis was placed on both sectors of conventional power and the burgeoning renewable energy market. The UAE has been investing heavily in solar power, with projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Germany, in turn, has a long tradition of advancing green technologies and aims to support international expansion of its renewable expertise.

Both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation in the production of clean energy, including joint research into efficient photovoltaic systems and smart grid solutions. These initiatives could reduce emissions, diversify local energy sources, and secure long-term energy stability for both nations.

The meeting also touched on investment strategies to attract joint ventures in energy infrastructure. German firms have expressed interest in UAE projects, while UAE investors seek opportunities in Germany’s renewable sector. The bilateral talks therefore pave the way for increased cross‑border capital flows that will finance new green projects.

In a broader context, the meeting reinforces the UAE’s ambition to diversify its economy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Germany’s support helps this transition by transferring technology, sharing best practices, and providing investment support.

Both countries noted the importance of aligning their environmental policies. Germany’s Net Zero 2050 strategy and the UAE’s Climate Action Plan seek to limit global warming, and bilateral cooperation can help accelerate progress toward shared climate targets.

Ultimately, the meeting illustrates that strategic partnerships can be a powerful engine for sustainable economic growth. Through joint investment and technology exchange, the UAE and Germany are set to advance renewable energy projects that will benefit the environment, local communities, and the broader global effort to mitigate climate change.
