In brief
"Wicked fans are shocked to find an adult website listed on the packaging of dolls inspired by the upcoming film, prompting Mattel to address the mix-up."
In a surprising twist, fans of the highly anticipated Wicked movie discovered a packaging error on the recently released singing dolls from toy manufacturer Mattel. The dolls, inspired by the musical film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, featured a small-print label erroneously directing customers to a pornography website instead of the film's official page. The mix-up was first reported by several discerning fans, who took to social media to highlight the unexpected adult content nestled amongst the doll's packaging. Online images revealed that the adult website address was printed beneath the Universal Pictures logo, the studio responsible for the film adaptation. Mattel has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding this slip-up.Promoted for children aged four and older, the Wicked dolls have sparked a confusing mix of amusement and disbelief among parents and collectors alike. One Reddit user recounted their surprise upon purchasing the Singing Elphaba doll and discovering the adult site address located above the barcode.Another collector shared her findings from stores like Target and Walmart, confirming the packaging error. The dolls are part of a new line leading up to the film's release on November 22, both in the US and the UK, after two decades of a successful stage musical where the story unfolds in the Land of Oz prior to the arrival of Dorothy Gale. The film follows the untold story of Elphaba, portrayed by Erivo, a young woman with green skin navigating her identity and magic before she becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West. In this transformative tale, she forms an unexpected friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch, played by pop star and actress Grande. As excitement builds for the film, fans hope this packaging error does not overshadow the longstanding legacy of Wicked.
