A tragic incident occurred on the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Uganda early Wednesday morning, where a collision involving multiple vehicles resulted in the loss of 63 lives. According to local authorities, two buses traveling in opposite directions were involved in a head-on collision while trying to overtake other vehicles, including a lorry and a car.

The crash occurred around 00:15 local time (21:15 GMT), with one of the buses swerving to avoid a direct impact, ultimately leading to a chain reaction of collisions that involved several other vehicles. In addition to the fatalities, numerous passengers in the buses and other affected vehicles sustained injuries and have been transported to a hospital in Kiryandongo.

The Uganda Police Force has since launched an investigation into the incident and has urged drivers to exercise caution when overtaking, as reckless driving remains a critical factor contributing to road accidents in the nation. Police officials emphasized that dangerous overtaking practices have proven to be one of the leading causes of traffic-related fatalities in Uganda.

As more details continue to emerge regarding this devastating event, the community mourns the significant loss of life and calls for improvements in road safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.
