In brief

Ellyanne Wanjiku Chlystun is a Kenyan climate activist making waves globally with her efforts in tree planting and advocating against climate change.

At just 14, Ellyanne Wanjiku Chlystun has gained international recognition for her relentless environmental activism. Inspired by Nobel laureate Prof Wangari Maathai, Ellyanne began her journey into climate action at the age of four. Learning about influential figures during a kindergarten project, she was most inspired by Maathai's significant impact through tree planting in Kenya. Despite initial hesitations from her mother, Ellyanne's determination led to the creation of her organization, Children With Nature, in 2017. By 2020, Ellyanne had personally contributed approximately 250,000 trees and created a thriving global network of tree enthusiasts, raising the total to 1.3 million trees planted worldwide. Her dedication has taken her to international platforms, where she connects climate change with public health crises, like malaria. While expanding into multimedia campaigns, her commitment to tree planting remains strong, with aspirations to contribute to Africa's Green Belt initiative. Ellyanne dreams of being instrumental in the global mission to plant one trillion trees and plans to blend her sustainable ambitions with future studies in economics. Her story highlights how youth activism, inspired by steadfast resilience, can lead to transformative environmental change.
