Five more suspects have been arrested over their involvement in the Louvre heist, Paris' public prosecutor has announced.

They were taken into custody on Wednesday night in the Paris region, according to Laure Beccuau's office.

A main suspect was among those arrested, AFP reported, following earlier admissions by two men who partially recognized their involvement in the brazen theft.

On October 19, items valued at €88 million (£76 million; $102 million) were stolen from the world's most-visited museum when four thieves broke in during the day.

As of Thursday, the jewels had not been recovered, Beccuau told French radio RTL.

She added that DNA from one of those arrested could potentially link them to the crime scene.

Details from French investigators remain sparse, but the newly arrested suspects can be held for four days before facing charges or release.

Authorities believe the gang involved in the heist may feature more members than the four individuals caught on CCTV.
