At least 22 Palestinians have been killed in a series of Israeli air strikes across northern and central Gaza, according to Hamas medical and civil defense officials.
Five sites were reported to have been targeted, including residential homes, with indications that a senior Hamas commander was among the fatalities.
The Israeli military stated that the operations were a response to an incident where, it claimed, an armed terrorist fired at soldiers after crossing into Israeli-controlled territory. Hamas has denied these accusations.
Both sides have accused each other of breaching the ceasefire agreement established six weeks prior.
Since the ceasefire, over 310 Palestinians have been killed in strikes by Israel, as affirmatively noted by Gaza's health ministry. The strikes reported on Saturday targeted areas in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Nuseirat camps.
At the Abbas junction in the densely populated Rimal area of Gaza City, civilians witnessed a car engulfed in flames following an Israeli strike that resulted in multiple casualties.
In the assaults, three individuals were also killed near a mosque in Deir al-Balah, and further strikes in Nuseirat resulted in families suffering from loss when two homes were hit, killing a total of ten people from the Abu Amouneh and Abu Shawish families.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office later asserted that Hamas had again breached the ceasefire by sending terrorists into Israeli territory, leading to a military response that eliminated key Hamas figures.
Hamas, in reaction to these attacks, claimed that Israel's actions represented a significant violation of the agreement, urging mediators and the United States to intervene.
This escalation follows an Israeli offensive initiated in response to the Hamas-led incursion into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed approximately 1,200 people and resulted in nearly 251 hostages taken.
According to the health ministry in Gaza, the death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks has soared to at least 69,500, highlighting the grave humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the recent resurgence of violence.
