Eight orangutans have been released back into the wild in Borneo after being rescued from intense wildfires that swept their habitat in August and September.
Three mother‑offspring pairs and two adult males were freed last Friday in a western Borneo reserve, after wildlife authorities rescued 46 critically endangered apes before the flames tore through their forests.
Wildlife authorities highlight this release as a vital step in conserving the species and acknowledging the growing threat of forest fires, a warming‑climate symptom.
