As the clock strikes midnight this New Year’s Eve, the United States will not only welcome the year 2026 but will also kick off the celebrations for its 250th birthday. The iconic Times Square ball will drop, sparkling in red, white, and blue, setting the tone for a year filled with patriotic festivities.
This year’s Times Square celebration will feature a unique second ball drop on July 3, the eve of Independence Day—a first in 120 years. America250 Chair Rosie Rios, overseeing the bipartisan commission that orchestrates the anniversary, promises that this celebration will surpass expectations, calling it 'the most inspirational celebration this country and maybe the world has ever seen.'
In addition to the New Year festivities, America250 has planned an array of events nationwide, aimed at commemorating the country’s history and fostering unity. The campaign will include everything from large-scale fireworks displays to grassroots community events, involving citizens from coast to coast.
Rios emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, 'We want to ring in this new year from sea to shining sea.' The initiative also includes a national service program—America Gives—aimed at making 2026 the year with the highest volunteer hours, aligning with the spirit of service and unity.
The New Year’s celebration is expected to not only honor the nation's past but also pave the way for a collective future, encouraging every American to actively participate in their community and contribute to the anniversary's commemorative efforts.
