Severe flooding has struck parts of Pakistan's Punjab province due to exceptionally high rainfall, leading to the evacuation of an estimated 200,000 individuals. Rescuers are employing boats to evacuate residents from submerged areas along the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. The disaster response has been bolstered by the army, particularly in districts like Gujarat, Sialkot, and Lahore.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the federal government will cooperate closely with regional authorities to manage the crisis effectively. Sialkot has reported rainfall levels higher than any recorded in the last 49 years, causing unprecedented flooding that has left numerous homes and infrastructures under water.
With many residents hesitant to leave due to economic concerns, especially those who rely on livestock and agricultural supplies, the NDMA has urged caution and advised individuals to avoid low-lying areas. Reports indicate that over 32,000 people have been rescued, but with both India and Pakistan experiencing significant rainfall, the threat of further floods remains.
