Bhoomi Chauhan, a 28-year-old business administration student from Bristol, has shared her harrowing tale of narrowly escaping a deadly plane crash. Having visited India for a holiday, she faced a frustrating battle against bumper-to-bumper traffic on her way to the Ahmedabad airport, resulting in her arriving just 10 minutes late for her Air India flight AI171 to London Gatwick on Thursday.

Despite having checked in online, she was turned away by airline staff when she reached the airport less than an hour before departure, expressing her disappointment and frustration at the situation. "I was dejected. All I was thinking was, 'If I had just started a little earlier, I would have been on that plane,'" she recalled. After leaving the airport in frustration, a conversation with her travel agent soon turned into shock when she received news that the flight had crashed shortly after take-off, claiming 241 lives on board, including passengers and crew.

The flight had taken off as scheduled but tragically malfunctioned approximately 30 seconds into the air, crashing into a residential area. Bhoomi’s last-minute change of plans has been deemed a miracle by her, reflecting on the event as a turning point in her life.

Emergency services worked tirelessly into the night following the crash as families grieve the loss of their loved ones. Among the victims were British nationals, including families from Gloucester and London, underscoring the widespread impact of this tragedy. Investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash, providing answers for the grieving families and an understanding of what went wrong for flight AI171.
